I own a 2007 A4 3.2QM that has been experiencing intermitent hot start issues. After the engine has warmed up, if I shut it off for more than 5 minutes, the engine just cranks and will not catch. I wait 15 minutes or so with the hood open and I can start no problem. The issue is not battery related. The ECU has been replaced and the dealer is at a loss as to the source of the problem. My own research has come up with a possible faulty crankshaft position sensor.

Recently the problem just got worse, the engine shut off while driving. My dealer refuses to replace the position sensor and insists on trying to find something else. How accurate is my diagnostic?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes the car is under warranty (2007) and 33,000km

They are in communication with their Audi/VW tech line and they are having them go through the list of items (including an ECU change which took 2 weeks to order and replace). Unfortunatly, this list does not seem to include the Crank Sensor module.

Today they said they found a wire that was pinched and are 99% sure this is the source of the problem. Problem is that if it were a pinch wire, I doubt it would be heat related. Thoughts?

Hello again

Well, it is possible - if the wires is pinched to 'almost' oblivion - but still hanging on in there - then heat/movement - all that sort of thing could have an affect I suppose... In any event - any pinched wire needs replacing - and you will know one way or the other.. Its a forward movement....

I think as they are in touch with VW tech -even as I meantioned before - you are going to get all the help you can that way --- this will go one of two ways -- ie, either they fix it and you are happy - or they wont/cant and you will end up ridding the car -perhaps through a deal with them / vw/audi... as recompense...
